A Fanning Springs teenager is in critical condition after she was ejected from an SUV that then overturned onto her during a Sunday morning collision on State Road 26.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, a 22-year-old Cross City man was driving a sedan westbound on SR 26 near County Road 344A at 5:15 a.m. when it entered the lane of an SUV headed east, causing a collision.

The SUV, driven by a 41-year-old Fanning Springs woman, overturned and the passenger, a 15-year-old Fanning Springs girl, was ejected from the SUV. The vehicle came to rest on top of the passenger.

Neither driver was injured and the crash and the FHP report stated no one in either vehicle was wearing a seatbelt.

Editor’s note: The gender of the 15-year-old was incorrectly reported as a male instead of a female.
