Fort White man, 29, dies in 2-vehicle collision on US 129

A 29-year-old Fort White man died Monday afternoon on US Highway 29 north of Bell when he attempted a U-turn and was hit by a pickup.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the Fort White man was driving a sedan south on US 129 south of NW 117th Place in Gilchrist County when he moved onto the right shoulder of the road and attempted to make a U-turn. A 32-year-old Bell man was driving a pickup truck behind when the sedan attempted the U-turn and struck the vehicle on the driver’s side.

Emergency responders pronounced the Fort White man dead on scene. He was reportedly not wearing a seat belt.

The pickup truck driver was not injured.
