A Gilchrist County Sheriff’s deputy hit and killed a 41-year-old Bronson man who was lying in an unlit section of a bank parking lot in Fanning Springs early Monday morning.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the incident happened around 1:10 a.m. when the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office (GSCO) deputy patrolling the area drove his vehicle into the parking lot of Capital City Bank (7240 US 19 in Fanning Springs). As he drove through a non-lighted portion of the bank parking lot, the vehicle struck the Bronson man who was lying down in the parking lot.

Gilchrist County Fire Rescue paramedics responded and pronounced the Bronson man dead on scene.

FHP was notified of the incident and assumed responsibility for the investigation, according to a GCSO release.
