The Alachua County Tax Collector’s Office earned the 2026 Sterling Sustained Excellence Award for its continued high level of services.
The award is presented by the Sterling Council, created in 1992 in partnership with the Florida governor’s office, and reserved for organizations who previously won its Sterling Award and continue to demonstrate excellence over the course of years.
John Power has led the tax collector’s office since 2014 and attributed the award, presented in Orlando at the end of May, to his staff.
“This award reflects years of dedication by our team to serve our community with professionalism, compassion, and accountability,” Power said in a press release. “Sustained excellence is not about a single accomplishment; it’s about consistently doing the right things for our customers, employees, and stakeholders.”
The Alachua County Tax Collectors Office deals with 550,000 transactions annually through mail, online and in-person visits at its three locations. Plus, the office launched kiosks at select Publix locations.
The office services tax questions along with vehicle registration, birth certificates, hunting and fishing licenses, weapons permits and more.
The office previously earned the Sterling Award in 2022.
