
A 26-year-old Wellborn woman was killed and three other people were seriously injured on Sunday morning when the car they were in failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the road and struck a tree on County Road 245 in Columbia County.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 22-year-old Lake City man was driving a Nissan sedan northbound on CR 245 near SE Sharon Lane at 4 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle travelled off the road and struck a tree.
The Wellborn woman, who was riding in the front passenger seat, was pronounced dead on scene by emergency responders.
The driver and two other passengers riding in the back seat – a 23-year-old Live Oak man and an 18-year-old Lake City man – sustained serious injuries and were transported by air to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville.
The crash is being investigated by the FHP Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit.
