The Chiefland girls basketball team advanced to Thursday’s district semifinals thanks to a dominating performance and a milestone moment.

Sophomore Nyasia Bivins single-handedly outscored Bronson with 24 points as No. 4 seed Chiefland cruised to a 56-21 win in a Rural Class District 7 Quarterfinal.

Her teammate, junior Brianna Bell, entered the game needing nine points to reach 1,000 points for her career. She scored 10.

The Indians improved to 19-5, while No. 5 seed Bronson’s season ended 11-9.

Currently, the top four teams in Rural-Region 4 are in the same elite district (Wildwood, Williston, Hawthorne and Chiefland).

Chiefland, which is fourth in the region, will play at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the district semifinals at top-seed Wildwood, which is 19-0 this season.

No. 2-seed Williston (17-2) will host the Hawthorne-Cedar Key winner at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The game will be broadcast online (audio only) at Mainstreet Daily News beginning at 6:45 p.m.
