“I would say the key to our start would be the team’s ‘buy-in’ from the time I stepped foot on campus,” Tillman said. “They saw the vision and worked as hard as they could to make it a reality.”

They are led offensively by the senior quarterback Isabella Alexander and senior wide receiver Taylor Booth, who will play in Saturday’s All-Star basketball game.

Alexander has thrown for over 2,200 yards and Booth leads the team with 1,460 yards receiving through eight games.

“Isabella and Taylor are phenomenal players,” Tillman said. “Isabella suffered a devastating ACL injury at the end of the season last year, so this year she wanted to bounce back and show that she is still able to manage the game and play at a high level.”

Alexander had 29 touchdowns and only four interceptions heading into last night’s game, while Booth had 61 receptions and 21 touchdowns. Booth also has 11 interceptions on defense.

“Taylor does what Taylor does,” Tillman said. “She picked up from last season and has actually played better. Her interceptions have decreased obviously, because teams know about her now. Also, we have some really good young newcomers on defense that are either freshmen or sophomores (Sylvana Jarquin and Alessia Torres). Those two have been attacking the ball and taking some of the interceptions away from Taylor, which is not a bad thing.”

Tillman and the Lady Bobcats will be guests tonight from 6-7 p.m. on “The Prep Zone Sports Show,” which is broadcast ‘live’ and ‘archived’ online (audio only) at MainStreet Daily News and The Prep Zone with Mainstreet Sports Director Mike Ridaught hosting the show.

Tonight’s show is our second broadcast of the week.

On Tuesday night, the Class 2A Newberry baseball team rallied for three runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun Class 5A No. 7 Columbia (Lake City), 12-11, in a shootout.

Marty Pallman and former Saint Francis Catholic Academy baseball coach Ryan Brown broadcast the game on our website. You can find the archive of the broadcast here.

On Good Friday, the Santa Fe (Alachua) baseball team will host Trenton.

The visiting Tigers, who are ranked No. 2 in the Rural state rankings, improved to 16-3 with a 10-2 win at home against Chiefland on Monday night.

This will be the only meeting of the season between the Tigers and the Class 3A Raiders (5-14), who snapped a 6-game losing streak with a key 2-1 district win at Palatka on Tuesday night.

We will have audio coverage of the game on Mainstreet with Pallman (Play-by-play) and former Buchholz baseball coach Ron Brooks (Color) calling the action beginning at 5:45 p.m. The first pitch is at 6 p.m.

Then on Saturday, Pallman and former basketball coach Mac McCray will broadcast a pair of All-Star basketball games involving as many as 20 area players.

“The Prep Zone All-Star Showcase” is being held at Trenton High School.

The girls will play at 9 a.m., followed by the boys game at 12:30 p.m.

You can watch the games online via the NFHS Network.
