When Santa Fe track athlete Terek Logan moved to Florida from Oregon before his senior year, he was hoping to find a way to a school in the south where he could be a pole vaulter.

Mission accomplished, as Logan signed a national letter of intent with the University of South Alabama.

Logan will participate in the pole vault at the college level. He says the move to Florida has paid off in many ways.

“I’ve absolutely fallen in love with the area, and my first major reason to leave Oregon was to take my carer to the next level,” Logan said. “I had made it to a pretty good height in Oregon, and I’ve seen myself get even better out here.”

Logan won the Oregon state title in pole vault and the high jump in 2023. With the state championships coming up in Florida in May, Logan has the chance to win two titles in two different states in two different years.

With Logan planning on concentrating on pole vault in college, he heads to a school in South Alabama that had the pole vault national champion in 2023.

“It’s a great area out there, very beautiful and they have a great track team,” Logan said. “They (South Alabama) want me to strive to be a great human being and a great pole vaulter and they just want to see me flourish so it was kind of a no-brainer to sign there.”

It’s a long way from Oregon to Florida. But Logan has no regrets. In fact, he’s very much enjoyed his senior year here in North Central Florida.

“It was definitely a big change-up for me coming from a school in Oregon and moving all the way out here,” Logan said. “But everyone has welcomed me with open arms and it’s been nothing but a positive experience here at Santa Fe.”

One difference Logan found between the two states is how much more he enjoys pole vaulting in the Florida weather. Mobile, Alabama is a pretty similar climate to Florida, one reason why Logan picked South Alabama.

Logan’s father was a pole vaulter in college. His parents couldn’t be happier for their son.

“They (his parents) are stoked,” Logan added. “They are very relieved that they know where I am going now and the college recruiting thing is over.”
