Williston girls basketball highlights this week’s broadcast coverage

On Feb. 6, the Williston girls basketball team defeated defending state champion Wildwood to win the FHSAA Rural District 7 title in a matchup of the top two teams in the state.

Williston, which is ranked No. 1, secured the top seed in the Rural Region 4 tournament and defeated previously unbeaten Moore Haven, the No. 4 seed, 65-14, on Friday the 13th to advance to this Friday’s region final.

The Lady Red Devils (19-2) will host No. 2 Wildwood in a rematch. The Wildcats (15-5) advanced with a 69-15 win at home against No. 3 seed Chiefland in the other regional semifinal.

Mainstreet will have audio coverage of the game  with Marty Pallman (Play-by-play) and coach Mac McCray (Color) calling the action beginning at 6:45 p.m. The tip is at 7 p.m. on Friday night in Williston.

The winner advances to the final four in Jacksonville on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

The Lady Red Devils and head coach Willie Powers will be guests from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday on our weekly high school sports show at locally owned Sonic Drive-In on Archer Road.

“The Prep Zone Sports Show” is broadcast ‘live’ and ‘archived’ online (audio only) at MainStreet Daily News and The Prep Zone with Mainstreet Sports Director Mike Ridaught hosting the show.

Then on Saturday, Feb. 21, the Buchholz boys basketball team will host Forest (Ocala) in a Class 6A-Region 1 Semifinal.

The host Bobcats (20-7), who are seeded No. 5 in the region, went on the road this past Saturday and defeated No. 4 seed Milton, 44-41, in the regional quarterfinals.

The visiting Wildcats (18-8), who are seeded No. 8, upset top seed Mainland (Daytona Beach), 57-55, on the road, which helped secure a home game for Buchholz. The Bobcats defeated Forest, 54-50, on Feb. 2 in the Class 6A-District 3 Semifinals.
