Fresh popcorn await Gainesville moviegoers starting April 16.

Update: Regal has updated its online listing of theater openings and pushed back dates for Gainesville's locations.

Regal Celebration Pointe & RPX and Regal Butler Town Center are now set to reopen April 23. Regal Royal Park is slated for May 14.

Our original story:

The movie screens at Gainesville's Regal Celebration Pointe & RPX are slated to open on April 16, according to a message sent out on the Regal app on Tuesday.

The list of upcoming openings shows the other two Regal Cinemas locations in Gainesville will open two and three weeks later.

According to the announcement, the Regal Butler Town Center location will open on May 7 and the Regal Royal Park location will open on May 14.

All three Regal movie theaters closed in March 2020, then lit up again in time for the Empire Strikes Back 40th anniversary in September. Then they went dark again in October 2020.

Last week Regal announced a slate of locations would open April 2, but the only two in Florida are in the Orlando area.

Been waiting too long for Regal to open up, this is great! Go see a movie and support your local theater folks, any movie!

Oh my goodness, this makes me SO happy! My husband will have had his second vaccine by then and we’ll be ready to go!
