According to an updated UF Campus Safety Message, “as of 3 p.m. on Monday, multiple offices throughout UF continued to receive similar, if not identical, hoax email threats or calls. The campuses and units affected have expanded beyond the Gainesville campus, to include UF Health Jacksonville.”

Every campus or unit affected by these threats is working with local law enforcement agencies, the message said. None of the threats received at UF’s Gainesville campus have been found credible, according to the message.

“Higher education institutions across the nation are often the target of hoax threats, including UF,” the message said. “Despite the pervasiveness of these hoax threats, UFPD (University of Florida Police Department) takes all reports seriously and asks the campus community to do the same.”

UFPD encourages the UF community to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to police. Members of UF’s Gainesville campus should call 352-392-1111. Those who are part of other UF locations across the state should contact local law enforcement immediately.

There is an increased law enforcement presence around the University of Florida’s Gainesville campus on Monday following the receipt of threatening emails. 

According to a Campus Safety Message, several UF departments received emails on Monday, “threatening the safety of different locations on campus.” 

The message states that the threats are consistent with a hoax and are in line with a similar incident that occurred on Friday, Feb. 20.  

While the University of Florida Police Department (UFPD) has confirmed that there is no threat to safety, the department encourages people to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police by calling 352-392-1111. 

“In the event of a dangerous incident that poses an immediate threat to the health and safety of the campus community, an emergency notification would be issued through the UF Alert System,” the message said.
