Alachua County school families are invited to learn more about the district’s academic and career tech magnet programs at the annual Alachua County Public Schools (ACPS) Magnet Showcase.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Alachua County Sports and Event Center (4870 Celebration Point Ave., Gainesville) and will include all the “district’s academic and career tech magnet programs in elementary through high school,” according to an ACPS press release.
Representatives from each of these programs, including students, will give information about the benefits of the programs, as well as provide application and deadline information.
“The district offers students of all ages so many pathways to achieving their educational and career goals,” Shannon Ritter, director of ACPS’ career tech programs, said in the release. “Families attending the Showcase are always amazed at the wide variety of options available through Alachua County Public Schools.”
Starting on Tuesday, Oct. 14, and concluding on Thursday, Nov. 13, each of the district’s magnet programs will host an open house to allow families a chance to see their options in person.
The release notes that several of the programs also provide shadowing opportunities.
More information about each magnet program, open house schedules, the application timeline, etc., can be found here.
According to the release, “Magnet programs are open to any student (including those not currently enrolled in the district), regardless of where they live and what school they are zoned to attend.” Students who get accepted into the program and live over two miles from the magnet program location will have access to transportation.
