Farm Share, Florida’s leading food nonprofit and the state’s largest food bank, is encouraging eligible seniors to apply for its Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) designed to provide nutritional food for low-income seniors.
According to a Farm Share release, the program will provide eligible low-income seniors with free, nutritious USDA commodity foods each month. Applications are open through Monday, Sept. 30.
The CSFP, a federally-funded initiative to improve seniors’ health and nutrition, will distribute free high-quality, shelf-stable food items.
How to Qualify for CSFP:
- Age Requirement: Must be age 60 or older.
- Residency: Must be a resident of Alachua, Flagler, Marion, or Union counties.
- Income Guidelines: Must have a gross annual income at or below 130% of federal poverty guidelines.
- Documentation Needed: Photo ID and proof of age are required for participation.
- Application: Apply by Sept. 30 to receive CSFP services at www.farmshare.org/csfp.
“For so many seniors, the CSFP program is more than just a food source — it’s a lifeline,” said Stephen Shelley, CEO of Farm Share, in the press release. “The program helps eligible seniors stretch their limited budgets so they can cover other essentials like medicine or housing. By providing consistent access to healthy food, we’re not just feeding seniors, we’re giving them one less thing to worry about in an already challenging economy.”
Organizations with a 501(c)(3) designation can apply to become a Farm Share Agency, helping extend CSFP’s reach to those in need.
