A more than 700-acre fire in Levy County continues to grow and move southwest, crossing Old Lebanon Road about two miles south of County Road 326.
Called the Cow Creek Fire, the blaze broke out on Tuesday and is several miles south of Bronson in the Goethe State Forest. First responders are going door-to-door urging evacuations.
A comfort center for evacuation support was opened at First Baptist Church in Chiefland (511 N. Young Blvd., Chiefland). Residents should bring food and bedding, according to the release.
Two other fires cropped up after the Cow Creek Fire on Tuesday. Both of those are near the Race Track and forced a relocation of the comfort center.
Two days ago, Levy County experienced smoke from fires in Alachua County, but had no active wildfires within its jurisdiction.
