We are winding down the regular seasons for fall high school sports.

Tonight from 6-7 p.m., join me from locally owned Sonic Drive-In on 39th Avenue in Gainesville for “The Prep Zone” sports show. My guests for this episode include Buchholz boys golf coach Ryan McNickle and members of the Bobcats’ golf team.

Buchholz will conclude the regular season with matches against P.K. Yonge, Forest (Ocala), GHS and the Ann & John Ives Tournament at the Mark Bostick Golf Course. We’ll talk about the season to date and discuss the upcoming Class 3A-District 3 tournament on Monday, Oct. 27.

On Thursday night, tune in to the Jacksonville Jaguars Coaches Show on 106.9 FM “I am Country,” followed by this Sunday’s game at home against the Seattle Seahawks. The pregame show begins at noon, followed by the kickoff at 1 p.m.

We have three high school football broadcasts this week, including a district game on Thursday night.

The Gainesville football team will look to get back in the win column following a 44-0 loss to rival Buchholz last Friday.

GHS (2-4), which has lost three in a row, will host Leesburg at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Citizens Field in a Class 4A-District 5 contest. The visiting Yellow Jackets (3-3) scored late to defeat the Hurricanes, 35-34, in last year’s meeting.

Audio of the game will be streamed online at Mainstreet Daily News. Join Marty Pallman (Play-by-play) and Jake Hoffman (Color) for all the action, beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m. The kickoff is at 7 p.m.

On Friday, the Eastside football team will have a chance to have the upper hand in the four-team Class 3A-District 5 title race.

The Rams (4-2, 1-0), who still must play district foe North Marion (Citra) on Oct. 24, will host South Sumter (Bushnell) in a matchup of top 12 teams in 3A.

The visiting Raiders (5-1), who denied the Rams a district title last year, are also 1-0 in league play with a final district game coming up on Oct. 24 against Dunnellon.

Eastside, which is ranked 12th in Class 3A, is currently fifth in 3A-Region 2, behind South Sumter, which is ranked 10th in 3A and is currently fourth in the region.

It’s a huge game with both playoff and district championship implications.

Audio of the game will be streamed online at Mainstreet Daily News. Join Cam Parker (Play-by-play) and Audrey Djuricich (Color) for all the action, beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m., followed by the kickoff at 7 p.m.

Our radio broadcast will originate from Duval County as the Hawthorne Hornets travel to University Christian (Jacksonville) for a matchup of top 10 teams.

Hawthorne (4-1), which started out at No. 9 in the first FHSAA football rankings, has moved up to fourth in the state in the Rural classification and their strength of schedule has improved from a negative number to 2.97.

They face a University Christian team that is ranked 10th in Class 1A. The Christians (5-2) will face their third Alachua County team following a 47-14 win at home in the season opener against Newberry and a 49-17 win at Santa Fe (Alachua) on Sept. 26.

Join Mainstreet Daily News Sports Director Mike Ridaught (Play-by-play) and former Gator football player Hank Rone (Color) for all the action.

You can listen to the game on 106.9 FM “I am Country” with audio online at IamCountryGainesville.com beginning at 7 p.m. The kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
