For the third consecutive year, high school basketball seniors will get an opportunity to put on their high school uniforms one final time.
Over 25 girls and boys will participate in The Prep Zone All-Star Showcase, including over 15 players in the Mainstreet Daily News coverage area.
The girls game will start at 10 a.m., followed by a boys game at 12:30 p.m. Both games will resemble a college basketball game.
The girls game will feature four 10-minute quarters, while the boys game will consist of two 20-minute halves. Plus, the one-and-one free throw returns after the seventh foul, with the double bonus in play for the 10th team foul.
Both games will be broadcast on the NFHS Network.
This year’s event will be hosted by Trenton High School, which will have two boys players (guard Nathan Ridgell and point guard BB Ford) from this year’s team, which advanced to its first final four in program history.
“We are honored and excited to be able to host The Prep Zone boys and girls All-Star games this Saturday at Trenton High School,” said Trenton boys basketball coach Eric Bullis, who will coach the North team. “We have long been a fan of the events and have had players on both boys and girls teams the past several years. Coming off of a historically successful season for our boys program, it is awesome to have the recognition and support of The Prep Zone in wanting us to host these games.”
Trenton girls basketball coach Lynsey Grant will be the head coach for the North girls team, which includes guards Kayley Sloan and Grace Griffis of Trenton.
Other notable participants include Chiefland’s Jon Adams, a University of Louisville football signee, and Williston’s Ashlyn Young, who led the Lady Red Devils to their first state title in program history.
“It’s a great opportunity for many of these boys and girls to put on their high school uniform one last time before they get ready for graduation and head out on their college endeavors,” Bullis said. “We are excited for a Saturday of competitive games that we hope the fans will enjoy.”
Bradford’s (Starke) Ar’Nayshia Griffin, who signed with Division-I Coastal Carolina, has verbally committed to play, along with Trey Armstrong of Rural state runner-up Williston.
The South will be represented by players from Trinity Catholic (Ocala), Belleview, West Port (Ocala), and Vanguard (Ocala).
Rosters will be finalized on Wednesday and will be available at the game.
Fans wanting to come and watch both games can do so starting with the ‘open practice’ at 9 a.m. on Saturday (girls). The boys’ practice is at noon.
Trenton High School is located at 1013 North Main Street in Trenton.
Admission for the game(s) will be $10 per adult (day pass), $5 for students, while kids under 5 will be admitted for free. Cash and credit cards will be accepted.
Only high school coaches with an FHSAA State Series or FACA coaches card, media and college scouts will be granted free complimentary admission to the game. No coolers or outside food will be allowed.
A concession stand will be available, and players are encouraged to bring their water bottles.
