Now that school’s out, your elementary through middle school-aged child is likely busy looking to land a summer job. If you’ve been coming home to containers and other unidentified objects stacked into towers around the house, this could be the year for them to try brick building.
From now through Aug. 3, Gainesville’s Bricks & Minifigs LEGO store is offering free LEGO-themed activities every day of the week from 1 to 2 p.m. with all supplies provided.
Space is limited to 12 participants per day at the store located in Newberry Square (1281 NW 76th Blvd.), so make sure to RSVP by clicking this link located on Bricks & Minifigs’ website.
Here’s the daily theme lineup for each week:
- Mystery Build Monday: Build a special creation based on the theme of the week.
- Tower Challenge Tuesday: Compete to create the tallest and most unique tower.
- Mini-City Wednesday: Help build an ever-growing city throughout the summer.
- Throwback Thursday: Travel through history with a different theme each week.
- F1 Friday: Build your own race car and test it on the track.
“School’s out, time to play with bricks,” said owner Kurt Kazlauskas in an interview with Kiss 105.3 about the summer program.
As a pediatric nurse specialist at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital and longtime LEGO enthusiast, Kazlauskas has a passion for connecting with kids through the bricks. He opened Bricks & Minifigs in January with a mission to do just that.
The buys, sells and trades new and old LEGO sets. It’s also equipped with a party room that features a racetrack, minifig maker bin, and carries LEGO-adjacent and compatible brands for products like base plates, display stands, lightsabers, greeting cards and customizable hats.
Kazlauskas told Kiss about some other special offers coming to Bricks & Minifigs this summer.
The whole month of July will be BOGO Bulk, where customers can buy one container of assorted bricks and get another one free.
On Aug. 1, Kazlauskas said LEGO will release a new line of sets. Bricks & Minifigs will have around 80 sets in store.
LEGO fans can stay up to date on Bricks & Minifigs’ summer offerings and inventory in Gainesville by following the store on Facebook and on the store’s website.
