- The FHSAA released regional pairings for high school soccer postseason starting Monday, Feb. 2, for girls and Tuesday for boys in Classes 1A-3A.
- Four girls teams from the Mainstreet area—P.K. Yonge, Newberry, Williston, and Branford—are competing in the Class 2A-Region 1 tournament.
- Buchholz boys, despite an unbeaten regular season, are seeded No. 5 in Class 6A-Region 1 and will play at No. 4 seed Tate on Feb. 6.
- State championships for Classes 1A-3A run Feb. 17-21 in Auburndale, and Classes 4A-7A run Feb. 23-28 in DeLand.
The girls and boys high school soccer postseason continues next week.
On Thursday, the FHSAA released its regional pairings.
The regional quarterfinals begin on Monday (girls) and Tuesday (boys) for Classes 1A-3A, followed by Classes 4A-7A on Thursday (girls) and Friday (boys).
A whopping four girls teams in the Mainstreet coverage area will be competing in the Class 2A-Region 1 tournament – P.K. Yonge, Newberry, Williston and Branford.
The Lady Blue Wave (10-4-3), who won their seventh straight district title last week, are seeking their fifth straight region final appearance. They are the No. 3 seed in 2A-Region 1 and will host No. 6 seed Taylor County (Perry) (17-4) on Monday.
Newberry (18-2-2), which lost to P.K. Yonge, 5-0, in the 2A-District 3 championship game, is the No. 5 seed and will travel to No. 4 seed Maclay (Tallahassee) (9-6-2) in Monday’s regional quarterfinals.
Williston (9-5-1), which lost to Newberry, 2-0, in the district semifinals, is the No. 7 seed and will travel to No. 2 Episcopal (Jacksonville) (13-4), while Class 2A-District 2 champion Branford (9-9-5) is the No. 8 seed and will travel to top seed Providence (Jacksonville) (11-4-2).
Class 3A-District 4 champion Keystone Heights (8-11-3) is the No. 8 seed in 3A-Region 1 and will host top seed South Walton (Santa Rosa Beach) (10-4) at 6 p.m. on Monday.
Gainesville High advanced to the 5A-District 5 title game before losing at top seed Springstead (Spring Hill), 3-1, in the championship game. However, the Lady Hurricanes (11-4) earned an at-large bid and will be the No. 7 seed and travel to No. 2 seed Innovation (Orlando) (8-7).
Oak Hall School is also in as an at-large.
The Lady Eagles (11-4) lost at St. Joseph Academy (St. Augustine), 3-1, in the 1A-District 2 championship game. They earned the No. 6 seed and will travel to No. 3 seed St. Joseph Academy (14-5) for a rematch in the 1A-Region 1 Quarterfinals.
Despite an unbeaten regular season, the Buchholz boys will have to travel in the opening round of the Class 6A state playoffs. The Bobcats (15-1-1) lost on penalty kicks (4-3) to Bartram Trail (St. Johns) in the Class 6A-District 3 championship game.
Buchholz is ranked No. 6 in the state in Class 6A (No. 17 overall), but they are in a super competitive region and received the No. 5 seed in 6A-Region 1. They will play at No. 4 seed Tate (Cantonment) next Friday, Feb. 6.
If they win, another trip to the Florida Panhandle likely looms at No. 1 Niceville (17-3-1).
P.K. Yonge, which defeated Williston, 2-1, to win the 2A-District 3 title, is the No. 3 seed in 2A-Region 1. The Blue Wave (17-3-2), who were guests on “The Prep Zone Sports Show” this past Wednesday, will host No. 6 seed Marianna (15-4-2) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
Williston received an at-large berth and a No. 4 seed. The Red Devils (12-3-5) will host No. 5 seed Global Outreach Charter Academy (Jacksonville) in Tuesday’s regional quarterfinals.
Branford joins the Blue Wave and Red Devils as three teams from the Mainstreet area to make it to the quarterfinals in 2A-Region 1. The Bucs (11-8), who won the 2A-District 2 title, are the No. 8 seed and will travel to top seed Maclay (Tallahassee) (11-5-2).
Santa Fe (Alachua), which won its third straight district title, is the No. 3 seed in 3A-Region 1. The 3A-District 4 champion Raiders (11-4-3) will host No. 6 seed Suwannee (Live Oak) (11-9-4) on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs (11-9-4) lost at home to Florida High (Tallahassee) in the 3A-District 2 semifinals but received an at-large bid.
Class 1A-District 2 runner-up Oak Hall (8-8-1) is the No. 5 seed in 1A-Region 1 and will travel to No. 4 seed St. Joseph Academy (St. Augustine) (4-8-2).
The second round of the FHSAA playoffs (regional semifinals) will be on Monday, Feb. 9, for girls and Tuesday, Feb. 10, for boys (Classes 1A-3A), followed by Classes 4A-7A on Thursday, Feb. 11, for girls and Friday, Feb. 12, for boys.
Region finals are Friday, Feb. 13, for Classes 1A-3A and Tuesday, Feb. 17, for Classes 4A-7A.
The state championships for Classes 1A-3A are Tuesday-Saturday, Feb. 17-21, at Lake Myrtle Sports Park – Soccer Stadium Field (Auburndale), followed by Classes 4A-7A (Monday-Saturday, Feb. 23-28) at Spec Martin Stadium (DeLand).
